Virgin Islands Diabetes Center of Excellence

Virgin Islands Diabetes Center of Excellence The Virgin Islands Diabetes Center of Excellence (VIDCOE) was started in the hopes of addressing the on-going diabetes epidemic in the Virgin Islands. It is a locally registered 501(c)3 Non-profit Organization whose mission is to prevent diabetes and reduce its complications through health promotion, patient education, treatment and research. VIDCOE’s main goal is to reduce the burden of diabetes and improve the quality of life for all patients who have or are at risk for diabetes.

St. Croix Location: Princesse Health Center Second Floor, 4040 La Grande Princesse, Suite 3, Christiansted, St. Croix US. Virgin Islands.

Virgin Islands Diabetes Center of Excellence

The VIDCOE Team collaborates with multi-specialty healthcare providers to treat the whole person. Employees are Certified Diabetes Educators, specifically trained to work within the Virgin Islands community. The VIDCOE offers convenient “one stop specialized services” for persons at-risk for and those who have diabetes.

The VIDCOE’s Care Team consist of persons with over 250 collective years of experience and expertise in Endocrinology, Internal medicine, Cardiology, Nursing, Diabetes care, Health education, Nutrition, Public Health, and Health Services Administration. 

The center will be exploring expansion to St. Thomas & St. John district in the first quarter of 2023.

Our Model

VIDCOE’s approach to diabetes care is unique, as it offers its patients comprehensive and holistic diabetes prevention and treatment services within a patient-centered medical home with interdisciplinary teams to meet the unique needs of patients who are at risk for or who already have diabetes. In addition to paid staff, VIDCOE works with volunteer community health workers to provide education and support to patients as needed.
